What’s up, I’m Alex

Ever since I made my stage debut, I have been addicted to acting. Granted it was my kindergarten play, I had about three lines, and all I did was dance around like a maniac, but I knew I was having fun. I didn’t quite understand it yet, but that would put me on a course that has led to this very spot.

I began my training at the Gamut Theatre Academy in Pennsylvania. I grew up around fairy-tales and Shakespeare plays, ancient Greek myths and American folk stories coming to life all around me all the time. I wanted to be part of that magic.

Storytelling has become my ultimate passion in life. Whether on a stage, a movie screen, the written page, or blaring in your earbuds.

My years spent developing my craft as an actor have provided me with a wide range of skills and tools to make me the best storyteller I can be. I am a proud alum of the Gamut Theatre Academy (PA), Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center (NY), Theatre Academy London (UK) and the Powerhouse Training Program (NY), as well as a graduate of the University of Connecticut BFA Acting Program.

So keep in touch if you want to create together! Follow along if you enjoy what you see. After graduation, I will be headed to Gamut Theatre as a resident actor/manager, where I am thrilled to be returning to such a wonderful artistic community. I also make music under the name Faraway Dog (new EP coming soon!), so you can follow my journey any way you see fit.

You can always follow me on Instagram @alex._winnick or email me at alexwinnickactor@gmail.com if you want to collaborate on a project, let me know what you have working at the moment, or if you just want to say hi or you missed me after a show.

“As in a theatre, the eyes of men, after a well-graced actor leaves the stage, are idly bent on him that enters next.”

Richard II, Act V

“Winnick’s portrayal of Laertes… is strong, with his best moments coming at Ophelia’s gravesite and in his swordfight with Hamlet.”
